Did you know Music Together® is in 45 countries around the world and has about 3,500 centers? This is due to our mission and philosophy.
Our mission is to provide the highest quality, research based early childhood music
education program to the entire family. To bring music
and movement experiences to children with the adults who love them in the magical process of development that only music
can provide. Our early childhood educators care about co-creating a fun, educational environment.
We offer resources through "Parent Education" in class for the family to bring "live music making" home. Music is meant to be an extension of daily life. We strive to offer an environment where all voices are welcome, emphasizing the joy of music rather than "perfection." We believe this can offer a platform where young children learn that music is a natural part of life from their primary caregivers.
Many people mistakenly believe that
only a talented few are musical and the rest of us are doomed to sing out of
tune and dance with two left feet. The truth is, we are all born musical.
In a supportive environment, children learn to dance and sing as naturally as
they learn to walk and talk. This knowledge helped us develop a four-point
philosophy that guides the Music Together program to this day.
Basic Principles of the Music Together Philosophy
I. All children are musical.
II. Therefore, all children
can achieve basic music competence, which we have defined as the
ability to sing in tune and move with accurate rhythm.
III. The participation and
modeling of parents and caregivers, regardless of their musical ability,
is essential to a child's musical growth.
IV. This growth is best
achieved in a playful, developmentally appropriate,
non-performance-oriented learning environment that is musically rich yet
immediately accessible to the child's, and the adult's, participation.
